Why do you need to retreat?

Taken from one of my recents reads…

“Why are moments of retreat so important? Because sometimes you have to retreat in order to advance. Retreats, times when you get away from the busy demands of everyday life, allow you to recharge physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
In the presence of unhurried quietness, you can take time to decelerate and slow down. You can catch your breath and allow your body the rest it needs. You can sleep in and allow yourself to do nothing more than enjoy curling up on a couch or sitting outside under the warm sun and cool breeze. Moments of retreat rejuvenate the body”

Retreat by definition is the act of moving back or withdrawing.

Relaxation by definition is the state of being free from tension and anxiety and recreation or rest, especially after a period of work.

When was the last time you retreated & relaxed?

In today’s world we tend not to retreat because there is not enough time. Demands on workers are higher than ever to “stay nearby and in touch”.

Recently I was reminded how short life can be and how important it is to step back and withdraw from life even if for a few hours.

What activity would help you retreat and relax?
reading a book or the newspaper
having a manicure or pedicure
learning a new skill
socializing with some close friends
watching a sporting event

All of these activities help you to slow down, “forget” about your worries, “turn off” work and relax.
